Outlander is a television drama series based on the Outlander series of historical time travel novels by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Left Bank Pictures for Starz, the show premiered on August 9, 2014. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to the Scotland of 1743, where she meets the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings.[1][2]

Starz renewed the series for a fourth season of 13 episodes alongside its third season renewal, which premiered on November 4, 2018 and adapts the fourth Outlander novel.[3][4] Starz has also renewed the series for a fifth and sixth season, each set to consist of 12 episodes.[5] As of November 25, 2018, 46 episodes of Outlander have aired.
